Items and Upgrade Components in World of Warcraft
Upgrades can boost the value of armor and weapons. However upgrading common equipment is not worth the investment as uncommon or exclusive equipment will outclass it quickly.
An item can be upgraded up to six times. Each upgrade will add to the item gauge.
Glyphs

The addition of suffixes to words can alter their meaning or pronunciation and some even have rules that apply. Suffixes are also used to alter the grammatical rules such as adding the suffix -ness words to make them an adjective or the suffix -ic for a word to make it possessive.

Item affixes can be used to improve armor and weapons with additional parameter bonuses. They can be a combination between one or more prefixes or suffixes. For example -Fiery boosts atk power by adding fire elemental damage. Item affixes are available for the majority of items with a level 80, with the exception of crafting ascended armor and trinkets.
